Lesson 1: Laying the Ground

In this webinar, Esther introduces an alternative perspective in regard to our sense of identity.  She introduces the Foundational Principles of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and their Spiritual nature.  Practical somatic strategies are explained to help cultivating a loving presence modeling to clients how to calm the nervous system from which Organicity toward healing can emerge. The last section on the biology of Spirituality informs how different spiritual practices and experiences change our brains and our “everyday consciousness”.

We will explore...
  • Spirituality and sense of identity as therapists
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Foundational Principles

Lesson 2: Phase I Treatment: Stabilization, Well-Being and Resiliency

We have greater opportunities to help our clients reconnecting with their authentic sense of self and their own wisdom from the stabilization phase of treatment to foster states of well-being and resilience.  Esther shares somatic interventions to embodying resources and positive qualities useful to assist clients into strengthening the emergence of their core Self.  The last section on Spiritual Bypass aids in understanding this concept, the pitfalls and how to avoid it in the therapeutic setting.

We will explore...
  • Well-Being and Resiliency.  Survival Resources and Shifting from shame into self-compassion
  • Embodying qualities of the Core Self and how our unresolved history can get in the way

Lesson 3: Phase II Treatment: Spiritual Growth and Healing available through Difficult Experiences

Trauma and adverse life experiences tend to leave us feeling extremely vulnerable, developing defenses against feeling our suffering, which prevents us healing from them. As we help clients process these emotions, it is also very important to pay attention to the opportunities for Spiritual Growth and Healing available at transformation.  Esther will share suggestions and clinical examples for how to evoke or recognize them, deepen into the embodiment of these and the new somatic sense of Self.

We will explore...
  • Widening the WOT for all kinds of affects, including for experiences of enlightment
  • Nourishment barriers
  • Meaning in suffering
  • Healing negative experiences related to certain religious practices and beliefs
Lesson 4: Phase III Treatment: Moving Forward

In this phase of treatment, we focus on helping clients developing deeper intimacy, a sense of belonging.   We will also learn interventions to discern the difference between taking healthy life risks in alignment with our core Self vs. taking actions from limiting beliefs.  Additionally, we will look at finding meaning and purpose in life and we will learn some Sensorimotor Psychotherapy interventions that could be utilized to accomplish this. Lastly, some practices of how to help deepen into a sense of wellbeing and wholeness will also be discussed.

We will explore...
  • Intimacy and belonging
  • Taking healthy life risks in alignment with your core Self and higher purpose

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why haven’t I heard about Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) training before?

A: SP creator, Dr. Pat Odgen, established Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI) in 1981. Until 2019, SPI almost exclusively relied on word of mouth to spread awareness of training in SP. With growing demand for effective trauma therapy, we realized the principles and methods of SP needed to reach further. We began offering a variety of programs online, so more people than ever before can affordably and conveniently begin learning SP.

Q: I've tried working with the body before, but it didn't work... How is this any different?

A: SP uniquely includes the body in therapy as both a source of information and target for intervention. By addressing the physical as well as the psychological, SP can support a deep, effective and unified approach to healing.

The immediately-useful knowledge you will gain in this course comes from Dr. Ogden’s years of study and clinical experience--she developed SP based on what works.

Q: What is included in registration?

Registration includes immediate access to all pre-recorded lectures, admittance to the live discussion events, ability to replay and download recordings, plus PDFs of slides and transcripts that you can download to keep forever in your personal reference library. It also includes one CE certificate for those that qualify (more detail on CEs below).
